ACTIFOAM® installation
ACTIFOAM fire resistant and thermally insulating foam rubber has a wide range of practical applications, such as:
- fire resistant ducting of cables (cavity seals)
- fire resistant ducting of bus-bar and cable tray systems
- fire resistant ducting of cables and/or cable trays through wall and floor penetrations
- temporary fire resistant sealing of penetration openings during construction work
- fire resistant sealing of doors and hatches
- fire resistant and thermal protection of installations
Installation
ACTIFOAM enables Fire-stops to be installed speedily, simply and effectively. Installation guidelines are available for the various areas of applications. Concise descriptions of the installation procedure for each area of application are given below. Full installation guidelines may be downloaded for each area of application.

Fire resistant ducting of cables
(cavity seals)
For the fire resistant sealing of cable penetration openings, ACTIFOAM sheeting and ACTIFOAM separation profiles are used.
The lateral sides and the underside of the
penetration opening are provided with a 25 mm thick ACTIFOAM sheet. Then the first layer of cables is laid at the bottom of the opening. The cables are spaced apart by means of separation profiles.
Next, another 25 mm thick ACTIFOAM sheet is placed on top of the first cable layer. Then the second layer of cables is laid and spaced apart in the same way. The space remaining after all the cabling have been laid is filled up with ACTIFOAM sheets.

Gas & Smoke tight fire resistant ducting of cables (cavity seals)
For the combined gas tight and fire resistant sealing of cable penetration openings, apply an additional 20 mm thick layer of FIWA sealing compound on the foam rubber.

Fire resistant ducting of bus-bar and cable tray systems (bus-bar cavity seals)
For the fire resistant sealing of penetration openings for bus-bars, ACTIFOAM sheets are used. Their dimensions are defined by those of the opening and those of the bus-bar. After the bus-bar has been ducted, the openings between the sides of the penetration opening and the bus-bar are filled with ACTIFOAM sheets.

Temporary seals during construction work
Cable penetrations are provided with temporary fire resistant seals by means of 25 mm thick ACTIFOAM strips and foldable ACTIFOAM separation profiles. These materials ensure the effective temporary sealing of penetration openings, and one or more ACTIFOAM strips can be removed when the cables are ducted. |

|
On completion of the construction work the temporary ACTIFOAM seals can be replaced by the RISE system, which is fire resistant, as well as gas, water and smoke tight. Installation guidelines are also available for the replacement of temporary seals by the RISE system. |
